BACKGROUND

Culture is a basic need, also as the identity, characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people. Cultures encompass languages, religions, cuisines, social habits, music,  and arts of its society. A society thrives through its cultural heritage. According to UNESCO, heritage consists of cultural heritage, such as tangible cultural heritage (paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, monuments, archaeological sites, and shipwrecks) and intangible cultural heritage (traditions, performing arts, rituals). Besides that, there is natural heritage which means natural sites with cultural aspects such as cultural landscapes, physical, biological or geological formations.

As a part of the world, youth can act as a bridge between cultures, also agents in promoting peace and intercultural understanding. Youth comprise a significant amount, about 18% of the world’s population. Representing a significant segment of society, youth participation is a key factor of the protection and safeguarding the heritage.

YOUTEX JAPAN 2018 will be held in Kyoto and Tokyo, as a one of the world’s largest collection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, also as the most high tech countries. It will be such a thrilled to YOUTEX JAPAN 2018 participants to learning Japanese culture as general, exploring Tokyo from the sites of technology, enjoying some cultural sites in Kyoto, and learning the way to take part of preserving and safeguarding the culture.

This activity is aimed specifically for young people aged 17 – 25 years who have a passionate about  SOCIAL PROGRAM, CULTURE and ready to become part of the WORLD youth Communities.

Youth Excursion program allows students from all over the WORLD to gain amazing experiences. Our program development model is for youth, by youth – encouraging delegates to share knowledges, experiences, and a passionate for WORLD issues

GOALS

  • Provide strategic platform for Youth Leaders to gain knowledge about Japanese culture as general, mix between modern and traditional culture as particular, and real action needed to preserving and safeguarding the culture.
  • Provide opportunity for Youth Leaders to explore Japanese culture from different perspectives and doing some cultural fun challenges.
  • Provide base for culture exchange to grow stronger relations across nations and deeper understanding towards diversity of culture.

LEADERSHIP

Through YOUTEX Japan 2018, potential Youth Leader who has brilliant ideas in cultural issues will be selected and assembled to enhance leadership spirit among the participants

LOCAL CULTURE RESEARCH

Through YOUTEX Japan 2018, potential Youth Leader will gain so much knowledge in cultural issues, as Japan’s cultural heritage and tech are greatly valued and designated as ‘living national treasures’. Youth Leaders also will experience local cultural heritage and doing some research

EXCHANGE IDEAS

Through YOUTEX Japan 2018, we provide the participants a platform to sharing the ideas, as well as build networking with parties in different countries

TIMELINE YOUTEX JAPAN 2018

Day 1: Thursday, 20th September 2018

Airport Assistance at Haneda International Airport

Airport assistance is an assisting set-up from the committee for all delegates. The assistance will be from Haneda International Airport to hostel. Assistance means that some of committees will be in airport to guide the participants to come in the check-in point by using public transportation

Check In

It will be in Hostel. Check in is a registration for the accommodation of delegates.

Welcoming Gathering and Dinner

In this session, the participants will gather for having dinner and knowing each other to build a good, more conductive and dynamic atmosphere. The participants have a chance to share their epic and dazzling experience.

Day 2: Friday, 21st September 2018

Exploring Tokyo Modern Culture

  • Miraikan Museum

The Miraikan (or to give it its full name the National Museum of Emerging Science & Innovation) in Odaiba, Tokyo is a science museum established by Japan's Science and Technology Agency. The Miraikan opened in 2001. The Miraikan appeals to publics, who flock here especially at weekends and public holidays, drawn by the various educational and fun activities the museum offers.

  • Tokyo Tower

This 333 meter tall radio tower was built in 1958. There is an observation platform at 150 meters and a special observation platform at 250 meters. The way it is illuminated at night changes by season and for events.

  • Shibuya, Hachiko Statue and Don Quijote.

Shibuya (渋谷)  is one of Tokyo's most colourful and busy districts, packed with shopping. It would be a shame to come to Tokyo and not take a walk across the famous intersection outside Shibuya station. One of the five exits from Shibuya Station, there’s a statue which called Hachiko statue, one of the most famous meeting points in Shibuya.  Everyday hundreds or thousands of people walk past it, stand in front of it, snap a picture or chatting around with friends.  Then, participants will buy some souvenirs from Don Quijote (ドン・キホーテ), a discount chain store that has over 160 locations throughout Japan.

Day 3: Saturday, 22nd September 2018

Tokyo University Campus Visit

The University of Tokyo (東京大学) located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1877 as the first imperial university, it is one of Japan's most prestigious universities

 Exploring Tokyo Traditional Culture with Tokyo buddies

  • Edo Tokyo Museum

The Edo-Tokyo Museum offers an experience of Tokyo's history and culture from premodern times to the present. The permanent exhibition area showcases life-size models of Nihombashi Bridge and a playhouse in the Edo period (1603–1868).

  • Asakusa *

Asakusa (浅草) is a district in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan which have several temples as well as various festivals.

  • Yanaka *

Yanaka (谷中) is one of the few Tokyo neighborhoods in which the old Shitamachi atmosphere can still be felt.

 FGD (Focus Group Discussion) with Tokyo Buddies

During the exploring Tokyo Traditional Culture, the participants will get the chance to do some researchers related to the art, culture and society. Once arrive at the hotel, the participants will discuss their thought in FGD forum.

Night bus

The participants will use night bus within approximately 8 hours to reach Kyoto.

Day 4: Sunday, 23rd September 2018

Exploring food in Nishiki Market

Nishiki Market (錦市場) is a narrow, five blocks long shopping street lined by more than one hundred shops and restaurants. Known as "Kyoto's Kitchen", this lively retail market specializes in all things food related, like fresh seafood, produce, knives and cookware.

 Sightseeing 

The sightseeing activity includes visiting some places of interest near the hotel.

YOUTEX 2018 Japan Mini Symposium

Symposium will be held in Kyoto International Community House. There will be speakers who will share their knowledge and experience. Some interesting topics are going to be discussed. The perspective of the speakers will be:

- Culture and Technology: How Japan Shape The Future and Mondern Culture”

- “Youth as Key Factors of Protection and Safeguarding the Heritage”

After the talks, the selected participants will be given a chance to share their ideas about “Youth Contribution in Local Cultural Heritage Issues” and judged by Kyoto University lecturer.

Day 5: Monday, 24th September 2018

Temple and Shrine Heritage Hunt

Participants will get chances to explore some heritage places: 

- Yasaka Shrine

Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社, Yasaka Jinja), also known as Gion Shrine, is one of the most famous shrines in Kyoto. Founded over 1350 years ago, the shrine is located between the popular Gion District and Higashiyama District

- Kiyomizudera

Kiyomizu-dera (清水寺), officially Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera (音羽山清水寺), is an independent Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto. The temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage site. 

- Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka 

The area along Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka slopes keep the atmosphere of traditional old Kyoto and are regarded as one of the best sightseeing spots in Kyoto. The stone pavement originally built as the approach to Kiyomizu-dera is now lined with a lot of souvenir shops.
